Final Fiddle

21 Sept 2015

I love it when you get to the final stage of styling a room or property and its time to add the finishing touches… More often than not this ‘final fiddle’ is not so much about the decorative items you’ve added along the way as it is about the intangible sense of life energy that completes the space.

For me personally, it is the simple addition of indoor greenery and its innate ability to emanate a sense of calm and abundance that truly finishes a project.

No need for a green thumb when it comes to adding a touch of flora to your home landscape as there are so many varieties of indoor (and outdoor plants), these days that have been specifically cultivated to keep maintenance and disease to a minimum.

Indoor plants give you good bang for your buck (cheaper than a bunch of flowers) and have amazing impact in a pot or in a large clear vase (seeing the roots is co chic!) and best of all when the chaps start to look poorly a short spell in the garden and a good water usually brings them back to life, ready to come back indoors.

Go potty for these hardy soldiers when it’s time for your ‘final fiddle’:

Zanzibar – The Zanzibar Gem not only looks sculptural and lush, it’s almost indestructible which is great news for anyone who struggles to keep their indoor plants looking good and best of all it survives in incredibly low light and needs very little watering.

Walking Iris – This little beauty isn’t your usual indoor plant but I find it fairly hardy in an indoor pot. I love to create a centrepiece in a decorative pot and if I need a little drama I sneak in a good quality faux stem of orchid flowers to the mix and most guests are none the wiser… I even get the odd flower from this little beauty when its inside.

Mother- in- Laws Tongue – This self propagating soldier is such a striking indoor plant when potted in a vessel suited to your style. Hardy, sculptural and needing very little water this carefree soul looks amazing in a low profile copper or rustic pot bang in the centre of your dining table or hallway console. Once again, if you somehow manage to upset this plant a short spell in the garden or on the porch usually has it forgiving your neglect in no time.
