The Lucid 'LOB'

18 Jan 2016

For most, the start of a New Year is welcomed with an informed and carefully thought out plan of bettering oneself. An achievable list of goals that may include eating healthier, travelling more, mitigating the credit card, embracing the now, letting go of the past, loving more or loving less.

For me, the dawn of 2016 began with a simple cut, a premeditated decision to change the status quo and a firm resolve to embrace the new. Quite bluntly, I was 'Lobbed'.

This savvy style has been trending for some time now with the term ‘LOB’ (long bob), coined way back late 2012  when the likes of January Jones, Jessica Alba and Gwenyth Paltrow took the chop and showcased this follicle fabulousness on the red carpet and local Hollywood playgrounds - no soccer mums here baby.

I am by no means reinventing the wheel and to be honest, I'm quite behind the trend with this one but I desperately needed a change that was practical (this little beauty still pulls back in to a ponytail for school drop off or lazy days), and to be honest freshened my face for the new year ahead (there's only so much skin serums and well-applied blush can achieve on days you actually look your age).

So the LOB it is!

The beauty of the LOB is that the length of this cut suits most face shapes and hair types therefore all that stands between you and the perfect LOB is a clever hair technician with a sharp eye and an equally sharp pair of scissors.

Next step? Make sure you have a clear understanding of your particular face shape. There are so many wonderful references online to determine your face shape; round / square / long / oval / heart. A reputable hair technician worth their grain of salt will be able to advise you correctly, creating the perfect LOB for your face shape and style requirements.

‚'LOB' PROS:

* perfect balance between short and long: transitional haircut

* still long enough to pull back in to a pony tail: hair looks thicker

In short ladies: long, lanky, thick or thinning make the cut this season and discover for yourself how such a simple snip can become a miracle makeover for all ages.

Chop, chop!

** My face shape is long or oblong: the goal when styling a long face shape or going for a new ‘look’ is to create width with loose wavy curls and/or structured layering that frames the face.
