Its getting to that time of the year again when one must start putting serious thought in to what small token or gift should be given to colleagues and friends alike to not only mark the festive season but symbolise genuine appreciation for the part they play in your life.
If I wasn’t driven by budget then I would simply get on to one of those swanky online gift stores close my eyes, wiggle the mouse, hit Paypal and be done with it.
Money however, or lack thereof will be a driving factor in what I choose in the way of thank you gifts this year.
Now some people are admittedly easy to please, happy to receive a well written card taped to a box of chocolates whilst others prefer a bottle of plonk embellished with a sparkly bow.
But I don’t quite get the full satisfaction of giving such unimaginative gifts and after all, this is all about me isn’t it?
So I have been thinking outside of the pot this year regarding christmas gifts and I think I might have cracked it.
Inspired by the numerous pups my Agave has sprouted recently and the fact that I will be aiding the mother plant by removing these bodacious babies I have decided to pop a pup in to little pots.
Hardy, decorative and the gift that keeps giving!
Other plants that are perfect for potting and gifting range from the festive Poinsettia, the fragrant Gardenia and of course any type of herb looks pretty in a pot and when received becomes a useful little addition to the kitchen landscape.
You may even have another plant in your back garden that is easy to propagate and looks dashing in a pot such as the frangipani, mint or kangaroo paw.
Container wise the choices are endless and range from organic woven pieces to smart high tech pots that water themselves.
Alternatively you could hand stitch a piece of rustic hessian or festive themed material together to create a cute sack that hides a plastic pot, tie snuggly with ribbon or decorative twine, add a jaunty card and you’re set to get gifting.
Whether you decide to make or buy your presents this year enjoy the journey and keep in mind that every gift is created in your heart first.
As Mother Teresa warmly quoted ‘It’s not how much we give but how much love we put in to giving’
Simply giving, simply creating… Simply Living!
